NEWSFLASH! We Made It Through The Winter
Mother Nature and Father Time played a nasty trick on us all through the winter, but we made it through. Soon we will hear the calling of the birds, the buzzing of the bees, smell the flowers and then feel the warmth of the sun and feel the fresh spring breezes. Winter may try to come and blow at us again, but take heart! It will not last long and we will soon be enjoying the flowers and start the activities that have been held off all winter. Soon the grills will be starting up and families will get together to say hi and catch up with the family buzz that they missed over the winter.
The animals will be venturing out of their dens, there will be many that give birth, and they will step out into the thickets to taste the bounties of spring; the frogs and crickets will start their warm-weather chorus, and the cows will soon taste the new green grass and celebrate spring their own way.
We will enjoy going out into the warm air ourselves and dance with joy at Spring's arrival. We welcome you, O Spring, welcome your warmth and welcome coming out of our homes. Spring brings happiness to us all. Welcome Spring!!!
Matthew 26:36 - 49 - 36Then Jesus went with the disciples to a place called Gethsemane. He said to them, "Stay here while I go over there and pray."
37He took Peter and Zebedee's two sons with him. He was beginning to feel deep anguish. 38The He said to them, "My anguish is so great that I feel as if I'm dying. Wait here, and stay awake with Me."
39After walking a little farther, he quickly bowed with his face to the ground and prayed, "Father, if it's possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from Me. But let Your will be done rather than Mine."
40When He went back to the disciples, He found them asleep. He said to Peter, "Couldn't you stay awake with me for one hour? 41Stay awake and pray that you won't be tempted. You want to do what's right, but you're weak.
42Then He went away a second time and prayed, "Father, if this cup cannot be taken away unless I drink it, let Your will be done."
43He found them asleep again because they couldn't keep their eyes open. 44After leaving them again, He went away and prayed the same prayer a third time. 45Then He came back to the disciples and said to them, "You might as well sleep now. The time is near for the Son of Man to be handed over to sinners. 46Get up! Let's go! The one who is betraying me is near."
47Just then, while Jesus was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve apostles, arrived. A large crownd carrying swords and clubs was with him. They were from the chief priests and leaders of the people 48Now, the traitor had given them a signal. He said, "The One I kiss is the Man you want. Arrest Him!"
49Then Judas quickly stepped up to Jesus and said, "Hello Rabi!" and kissed Him.
Matthew 27:33 - 34 - 33They came to a place called Golgotha (which means the place of the skill). 34They gave Him a drink of wine mixed with a drug called gall. When He tasted it, He refused to drink it.
Matthew 27:37 - 37They placed a written accusation above His head. It read, "This is Jesus, the King of the Jews."
Matthew 27:45 - 46 - 45At noon darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. 46About three o'clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" which means, "My God, My God, why have you abandoned me?"
Matthew 27:50 - 50Then Jesus cried out once and gave up His life.
Matthew 28:1 - 2 - 1After the day of worship, as the sun rose Sunday morning, Mary from Magdala and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 2Suddenly, there was a powerful earthquake. An angel of the Lord had come down from heaven, rolled the stone away, and was sitting on it.
Matthew 28:5 - 6 - 5The angel said to the women, "Don't be afraid! I know you're looking for Jesus, Who was crucified. 6He's not here. He has been brought back to life as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying."

HOLY WEEK
The week between Palm Sunday and Easter is known as Holy Week. Palm Sunday is celebrated to remember Jesus' coming into the city of Jerusalem riding on a donkey. Palm branches were strewn across the road to make a way for the King.
Some Christian churches observe Maundy Thursday to remember the last supper, Jesus' betrayal, and His prayer in the garden of Gethsamane.
On Good Friday, we think of the cross where Jesus shed his blood as the perfect Lamb of God to bring salvation to His beloved ones.
On Easter Sunday, we celebrate the glorious ressurection of Jesus.
-- Jackie Moller
Another religious holiday is called Passover. The Jewish people commemorate the time of God's deliverance of them from bondage in Egypt. -- Exodus 12:11-14
Some Jewish families celebrate Passover with a seder meal which consists of unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

IN LIKE A LION, OUT LIKE A LAMB
Is there any truth to this saying? Where did it come from? How does it work? These are all the questions I have had about this "prediction". I have come to learn that this "weather folklore" originates in the days before the weatherman and before the weather was recorded. It seems that people felt a need to be able to foretell the weather future some time ago. They used to keep a tally of the days where the weather was nice versus the days it was overcast, stormy, windy, snow fell, and, they didn't know about the outcome if it had come in like a lion, or indeed come in like a lamb. So now, it is just one of those tales that comes down through history.
As some people know, there are those out there who only take tally the first day of the month and the last day of the month and make their decision from there. That truly is the easy way out. I'd rather count all the days and know later after the month was gone to know what the outcome would be. -Sharon H
"In like a lion" the March lion growled. "I will be stronger because I am bigger. You can't come in at all because I am going to take the whole month!"
The lamb replied, "We will see, Mr. Lion. The lamb shivered in the cold and windy day. But the sun soon came out and made the world warm. The lion got sleepy with the warm sun shining on his coat. It was a comfortable warmth, so he went to sleep. Now the lamb goes out sheepishly. - Sharon H

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
This March 9th is MOCJ's seventh birthday. In that time, many staff have come and gone, and many residents have, as well. But Father Jospeh Ekweariri, PhD, and Florin D'Souza have been here through it all and weathered every storm to make sure that MOCJ stays the course.
Our beloved facility has been through many changes over the years, most recently the landscaping has been added. I am glad that the facility is here, because it allows me to be safe. If Mother of Christ Julinoel was not here, it would make a big difference in my life. You see, I would be homeless if not for Father Joseph and Ms. Florin and MOCJ. That is why I am always glad that MOCJ is here. And I pray and thank God very often for providing a safe place for all of us and keeping our bellies full. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOCJ!
MAEWYN SUCCAT
Maewyn Succat was born around AD 385 in Wales. He considered himself a pagan, and, when he was 16, he was sold into slavery by a group of Irish Marauders that raided his town. It was during that time that he became close to God.
After six years, he excaped slavery and went to Gaul and he studied under St. Germain, bishop of Auxerre. During his twelve years of study, he realized his calling was to convert pagans to Christianity.
Maewyn almost did not get the job because he lacked the scholarship.
His wish was to return to Ireland to convert the Pgans to Christianity. Instead, his superiors instead appointed St. Palladius. Palladius relocated to Scotland. Patrick (as ne now named himself) was then appointed Second Bishop of Isreal.
St. Patrick moved across Ireland and set up monasteries. He also built schools and churches along the way. He was successful in converting many Pagans and winning souls. The Celtic Druids were upset by that. He was arrested several times and escaped each time.
Folklore has many tales of St. Patrick. Some of it says that St. Patrick is believed to have given a sermon on a hilltop. That sermon drove all the snakes away from Ireland. After thirty years working his mission, he died March 17, AD 461. St Patrick's Day used to be a Catholic holiday, but now it is more secular holiday. St. Patrick's Day came to America in 1737. It is believed that the holiday is so popular because4 it is held just a few days before spring. - Sharon H
MEN SAY THEY KNOW MANY THINGS
Men say they know many things
But lo! They have taken wings,
The arts and sciences,
an a thousand appliances;
The wind that blows
Is all anybody knows
- Henry David Thoreau
Good-by and Keep Cold
This saying good-by on the edge of dark
And the cold to an orchard so young in the bark
Reminds me of all that can happen to harm
an orchard away at the end of the farm
All winter, cut off by a hill from the house.
I don't want it girdled by rabbit and mouse
kBy deer, and I don't want it budded by grouse
(If certain it would be idle to call
I'd summon grouse, rabbit, and deer to the wall
And warn them away with a stick for a gun.)
I don't want it stirred by the heat of the sun.
(We made is secure against bing, I hope,
By setting it out cold on a northernly slope.)
No orchard's the worse for the wintriest storm
But one thing about it, it mustn't get warm
'How often already you've had to be,
Keep cold, young orchard. Good-by and keep
Cold, dread fifty above more than fifty below."
I have to be gone for a season or so.
My business awhile is with different trees,
less carefully nurtured, less fruitful than these,
And such as is done to their wood with an ax--
Maples and birches and tamarachs.
I wish I could promise to lie in the night
And think of an orchard's arboreal plight
When slowly (and nobody comes with a light)
Its heart sinks lower under the sod
But something has to be left to God.

Happy Valentine's Day! First Mother of Christ Julinoel Newsletter a Hit!
Thank you all for the comments that you gave about the first Newsletter. It was great fun for me to format and display. Now, to make the next one even greater, let's all submit something! Share a passion, an event, poetry or prose, or a report on an activity we had during the month. Let's make this a newsletter about all the best of Mother of Christ Julinoel.
GROUNDHOG DAY!
Groundhog Day is February 2, 2011. Punxsutawney Phil is the Groundhog's name.
About the whole shadow thing: if the Groundhog does not see his shadow, winter will only last 42 days. If he sees his shadow, winter will last six more weeks. When you think about it, it's six one way, half a dozen the other. It really doesn't matter, I guess it's just a fun day and one that brings tourism to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.
Fun on Groundhog Day
There are shadows you make in the sunshine
The are shadows you make by the lamp
There are shadows that lurk in the forest
While you tell creepy stories at camp
There are shadows that help you with puppets
And shadows you make just for play
But the shadow that's famous is Groundhog's,
Wen he tells whether winter's to stay.
Let's go out very early this morning
And watch for his shadow, my son;
It may not be at all scientific,
But you've got to admit that it's fun!

Valentine's Day
February 14, 2011
"Love is patient and kind; lot is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude
Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wroth, but rejoices in the right.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends."
1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
A Challenge:
Lots of you have no "Valentine", so here's a suggestion:
Why not choose someone and "adopt" them for Valentine's Day. Make them a home-made card and maybe think of something you can do for that person to make them feel special. Nobody needs to know who you have chosen. It is always more fun to give than to receive, and that includes Valentine's Day.
Valentine's Day
A candlelight dinner
A bottle of wine
Both are the winners
They talk as they dine
She is so pretty
And he is so fine
They are so giddy
She's his Valentine

Greetings everyone! It's strange how time passes by. It is already February and Spring will be sometime next month. I bet everyone is looking forward to that. It is difficult to believe that time is moving so fast. It seemed like just yesterday we were celebrationg the New Year.
We have had a really snowy couple of months, it's hard to get out when you want to because of how cold it is. But I see every storm that we have had this winter created a world of beauty. I looked out at the snow last month, and it sparkled like stars in the sky.
I do thank God that I am here, with a roof over my head and good food in my belly. I am so thankful to the staff members for all of their hard work. They are very special people because they put up with our attitudes and they don't make a lot of money. We need to stop thinking that we are the only people around here, that they should be waiting on us when it is not their job. So, please, take a moment just to say to them, "Hey Dude, thanks for all your hard work."
President's Day
February 21, 2011
I find it very interesting that most people think of President's Day as the day the autos all go on sale. It is actually based on two Presidents who shaped the world in their day and gave us the freedom we have today.
President George Washington, the Father of our country, was born February 22, 1732, and died December 14, 1799. He was President from April 30, 1789 - March 3, 1797.
President Abraham Lincoln was born February 12, 1809 and died April 15, 1865. He was President from March 1861 until he was assassinated on April 15, 1865.
President's day is used to celebrate President George Washington. In the politically correct 1960's, President Abraham Lincoln was added to the celebration. The name has never really been changed on United States documents to be President's Day, it is still named Washington's birthday.
The President that is honored all depends on where you are. Some states expand the holiday to include presidents from their states. Virginia, however, considers it Washingtons brithday. Alabama celebrates Washington and Jefferson, and Massachusetts celebrates every president from that state.
So on President's Day, however you choose to remember it, remember all who gave service in the office of President of the United States and the sacrifices that all the Presidents have made and each accomplishment because they made the nation great and shaped the world we live in today. - Sharon

Point of Interest
Please do not bum cigarettes or money. There has been an extreme amount of bumming cigarettes from people. If they give you their cigarettes, they are paying MOCJ for you to smoke. I think that it makes the facility on the whole look bad when people are pan-handling staff to get money or cigarettes. And if MOCJ did not limit the amount of time in the smoke room, it would be open all day. Nobody needds to smoke, really, but if you do, please act accordingly. Please understand that even though you think it's ok to bum cigarettes and money, it makes the facility look bad and one person begging for cigarettes makes the whole facility look bad. Thanks so much and God bless you.

The Rose Family
by Robert Frost
The rose is a rose,
And was always a rose
But the theory now goes
That the apple's a rose
And the pear is, and so's
The plum, I suppose
The dear only know
What will next prove a rose
You, of course, are a rose--
But were always a rose.
Acts 10:38 "How God annointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him."
"Friends--They are like air bubbles on water, hastening to flow together. History tells of Orestes and Pylades, Damon and Pythias, but why should not we put to shame those old reserved worthies by a community of such? Constantly, as it were through a remote skylight, I have glimpses of a serene friendship-land, and know the better why brooks murmur and violets grow. This conjunction of souls, like waves which met and break, subsides also backward over things, and gives all a fresh aspect. I would live henceforth with some gentle soul such a life as may be conceived, double for variety, single for harmony--two, only that we might admire at our oneness--one, because indivisible. Such community to be a pledge of holy living. How could aught unworthy be admitted into our society? To listen with one ear to each summer sound, to behold with one eye each summer scene, our visual rays so to meet and mingle with the object as to be one bent and doubled; with two tongues tob e wearied, and thought to spring ceaselessly from a double fountain."
-Henry David Thoreau
